You own your site outright once it's built — there's no buyout fee and no ongoing license to maintain. Hosting and support are optional add-ons, not a requirement to keep using your site.
How It Works
- You Provide: All text, images, logos, and brand direction upfront.
- I Design: I build mockups based on your brief. You review and request changes — up to 2 rounds of revisions are included at this stage.
- You Approve: Once you're happy with the design, you approve it and I begin building the live site. A 25% deposit is due at this point and is non-refundable — it covers the design work already completed.
- I Build: I build the approved design into a clean, fast, live site.
- You Launch: Remaining balance is due on delivery. The site — code, content, and hosting arrangement — is yours.
- You Relax (optional): If you'd like me to keep things running, hosting and support packages are available month to month.
Ownership
Once the final balance is paid, you own the site outright — full copyright, all source files. Host it with me, move it elsewhere, or hand it to another developer. There's no ongoing obligation to keep paying for hosting or support to retain your rights to the site.
Your own content — text, images, logos, branding — is yours regardless, at every stage.
Deposit & Cancellation
- The 25% deposit is due once you approve the final design, and covers the design phase. It is non-refundable.
- If either party needs to step away after the deposit is paid but before the build is delivered, no further payment is owed by you, and no further work is owed by me. If you'd like whatever's been built so far, I'll hand it over at my discretion.
- Cancelling before design approval carries no charge, since no deposit has been taken yet.
Hosting & Support Cancellation
- Cancel Managed Hosting or Prepaid Support anytime with 30 days' notice.
- Your site remains live and unaffected until the paid period ends — cancelling hosting/support never affects your ownership of the site itself.
Content & Compliance
You're responsible for the accuracy and rights to all copy, images, and data collection practices on your site. The contact form sends directly to your email as a mailto link — no submissions are stored or processed by me. I build with standard technical safeguards (HTTPS, cookie consent, secure forms) as good practice, but you remain the data controller for anything collected via your site.
Support Hours
The £40/mo package covers up to 1 hour of developer time per month. Hours don't roll over. Complex changes or new features are billed at £50/hr.
FAQ
Do I own the website?
Yes — outright, once the final balance is paid. Full copyright, full source files, no strings attached.
What if I need more than 5 pages?
We'll quote additional pages at a fixed rate or ad-hoc hourly rate.
What happens if I want to cancel mid-build?
If it's after you've approved the design and paid the deposit, the deposit isn't refunded, and no further work or payment is required from either side. I'll hand over whatever's been built so far if you'd like it.
What happens if I stop paying for hosting or support?
Hosting and support simply end at the close of your paid period, with 30 days' notice before anything is taken offline. This never affects your ownership of the site — you're always free to move it elsewhere.
Is this GDPR compliant?
The contact form is a mailto link, so no form data passes through or is stored by me. I build with standard safeguards like HTTPS and cookie consent as good practice. As the business owner, you remain responsible for how any data collected on your site is used.
Do you work with businesses outside Wiltshire?
Yes, I work remotely with clients anywhere in the UK. Most of the process happens over email and a few calls.
